Bus
note: as long as there are not any major
storms within a few days before your trip, buses should not have any
difficulties driving directly to GCC (please follow our directions carefully),
and there will be ample parking for a bus.
The
Gibbon Conservation Center is located in the northern portion of the Santa
Clarita Valley, just off of Bouquet Canyon Road.
FROM
HIGHWAY 14:
· Take Hwy 14 to the Via Princessa exit.
· Turn west onto Via Princessa. Drive 1.3 miles on Via Princessa to White’s
Canyon Rd.
· Turn right onto White’s Canyon Rd. Cross Soledad Canyon Rd. Wind up into the
hills. The road will change names into Plum Canyon Rd.
· After driving a total of 4.2 miles on White’s Canyon Rd and Plum Canyon Rd,
turn right onto Bouquet Canyon Rd. (Set your trip odometer!)
· Drive past Blue Cloud Rd (on the left) to Esguerra Road (on the right) which
is a total of 2 miles. (Note: This is spelled “Esquerra” in the Thomas
Brothers Guides.)
· Turn right onto Esguerra Rd and drive a total of 1/10 of a mile (a dirt road
heading down off of Bouquet Canyon.)
· Turn right at West Galton Rd (“Gibbon Center Drive”) and follow signs into GCC
parking lot which is 1/20 of mile on W Galton Rd.
FROM
INTERSTATE 5:
· Take Valencia Blvd. exit and turn east, then drive 2.5 miles (OR take Newhall
Ranch Road exit, turn east, then drive for 3.9 miles)
· Turn left on Bouquet Canyon Rd. From that corner it is a total of 4.7 miles
east to Esguerra Rd.
· When you pass the traffic light at Plum Canyon Rd you will have driven 2.7
miles on Bouquet Cyn. You could reset your trip odometer, and go another 2 miles
on Bouquet Canyon Road. Go past Blue Cloud Road (on the left) to Esguerra Rd (on
the right). (Note: This is spelled “Esquerra” in the Thomas Brothers Guides.)
· Turn right onto Esguerra Rd., a dirt road heading down off Bouquet Canyon
(this is a wide dirt pull out, with various real estate signs, mailboxes, and a
sign for the Gibbon Conservation Center "GCC"). You will drive slightly
downhill on this dirt road, so please drive cautiously. Drive a total of
1/10 of a mile.
· Turn right at West Galton Rd (“Gibbon Center Drive”) and follow signs into GCC
parking lot which is 1/20 of mile on W Galton Rd.

Another way to
get to The Gibbon Conservation Center from Los Angeles area is by taking the
#405 north, then just past the #210, take the #14 north (toward Palmdale and
Lancaster). Then take the Sand Canyon offramp and go left on Sand Canyon. Turn
right at the "T" intersection (Sierra Hwy.) Drive 0.3 mile and turn left on
Vasquez Canyon. At the "T" intersection (Bouquet Canyon Rd) turn left. Drive
about 0.6 mile to Esguerra, a dirt road on the left, just past Lombardi's
produce stand. Be extremely careful making this left turn from Bouquet onto
Esquerra--visibility is limited and it is nearly a U-turn. From there, follow
the usual directions above.
Bridge
construction beginning Spring 2009 on Bouquet and
Vasquez
From Porterville area: Take the #99 south and merge with the
#5. Continue on the #5 south to the Santa Clarita area. Take the
Valencia Blvd. exit east (left). Drive 2.5 miles on
Valencia Blvd. and
turn left on Bouquet Canyon Rd. Drive 5.3 miles on Bouquet Canyon
Rd. and, after you pass a mobile home park on the left, drive approximately 1/2
a mile and turn right on Esguerra Rd. (may be spelled "Esquerra")--a dirt road
which only goes to the right. There are several mailboxes and kennel signs at
this corner. The Gibbon Center is .3 of a mile from the mailboxes.
Follow the signs
On the Esguerra Rd. street sign pole, there will be a hand
painted sign with a picture of a gibbon at that spot. Drive 1/10 of a mile
on the dirt road and drive through a dry or shallow stream bed. Turn right at W
Galton and another street sign with the wording Gibbon Center, where there will
be another hand painted sign with a gibbon pointing. At that spot there are two
roads that you could take that go right. Please take the one that keeps you on
level ground. Drive 1/20th of a mile then turn left where there is another hand
painted gibbon sign. From there drive 1/10th of a mile to the clearing outside
the chainlink fence, where you can park.
When entering the GCC, please DISINFECT the soles of your
